  • The Short Story: --- The Lady Knights recorded their fourth straight sweep after blanking Lock Haven, 3-0, to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play Friday evening. Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) led Gannon with a match-best 28 assists, while Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) connected on a career-high five service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights took advantage of home court in the opening set creating a 9-4 edge after back-to-back kills by Sampson. Gannon then erupted on a 10-0 run to expand its lead to 23-10 after a Sampson service ace. Gannon went on to close out the frame, 25-13.
  • Both teams traded points in the second set until Gannon used a 7-0 run to make the score 17-8 following an Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) kill. Lock Haven then battled back to cut the deficit down to seven, 21-13. However, the Knights closed out the set on a 5-2 run to steal the frame, 25-15.
  • Gannon jumped out an 11-6 lead in the third set after Sampson connected on three straight service aces. The Knights then put the contest out of reach doubling up the Bald Eagles, 16-8, following a Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) service ace. The Knights won the third set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon opens PSAC play 1-0 for the first time since 2016.
  • The Knights recorded their fourth straight sweep and sixth of the season.
  • Gannon posted a season-best .344 attack percentage.
  • Sampson totaled a career-high and match-best five service aces. She also contributed seven kills and seven digs.
  • Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) notched a match-high 10 kills. It was her fourth time this season reaching double digits.
  • At least seven players recorded a dig in the contest with Leitshush setting the standard with a match-best 10 digs.
  • Gannon leads the all-time series against Lock Haven, 14-1.
UP NEXT
  • The Knights continue PSAC play tomorrow hosting Bloomsburg at the Hammermill Center at 2:00 p.m.
  • Last season, Gannon blanked Bloomsburg on the road, 3-0, in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
