HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cal U scored out of the gates in only the second minute of play. Elisabeth Engle sent the ball in the net on an assist from Kiley Austin. Austin got the ball on a deflection and passed it out to the side of the goal box to Engle. Engle's shot went over a Gannon defender and the goalkeeper to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Emily Cekella (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) responded for the Knights in the 18th minute. Kayla Bevacqua (Welland, Ontario/Notre Dame) sent a corner kick into the box. Cekella was there to head the ball past the goalkeeper knotting the game 1-1.
  • The Knights applied the pressure late in the second half dominating the offense. Coccurello drew a yellow card in the box setting Gannon up for a penalty kick, which McCartney would take. McCartney sent the ball high and to the right of the goalkeeper to score the game winner.
