HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the teams traded points to open the match, Gannon built a three point, 10-7, edge after an Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) kill. The Knights stretched their lead to nine, 21-12, following a kill from Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland). Gannon went on to win the first frame, 25-22.
  • Gannon wasted little time opening up an 8-3 edge after a kill Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) to force Malone to burn an early timeout. The Knights then pushed their edge into double digits, 21-10, after back-to-back service aces from Smith. Gannon went on to close out the set and pick up the win, 25-21.
  • Both teams battled in the third set which saw six ties. Gannon pulled away late with the use of a 4-0 run to create a 22-17 edge and force a Malone timeout. Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) posted two kills over that span to help the Knights steal momentum. Gannon then closed out the set, 25-20, and earned the sweep, 3-0.
