  • The Short Story: Gannon volleyball swept Saint Rose, 3-0, in the Gannon-Edinboro Tournament. Gannon recorded 41 kills as team in comparison to Saint Rose's 20. Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) set the standard with a match-best 12 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Knights took control of the opening set jumping out a to a 9-4 edge after back-to-back kills by Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute) and one from Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central). Gannon then went on to double up Saint Rose, 12-6, after a kill by Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington). Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) sealed the 25-14 opening frame win with a kill from Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland).
  • Gannon used a fast start in the second frame to create a 15-5 advantage after a kill from Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute) to force a Saint Rose timeout. The Lady Knights kept their foot on the gas pushing their edge to 19-6 after a Toni Leitshush kill. Gannon went on to take the second set, 25-9.
  • The Lady Knights continued to ride momentum into the third set creating a 9-4 advantage after an Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) service ace. Gannon pushed its lead into double figures, 20-10, following a kill from Kristin Schorr (Evansville, Ind./North Posey). The Lady Knights went to win the set, 25-12, and the match, 3-0.

  • As a team, Gannon held the edge in kills (41-20), assists (37-19) and digs (41-40).
  • Toni Leitshush recorded a match-high 12 kills to go along with a match-best .417 hitting percentage.

  • The Short Story: Gannon used a late 6-2 run in the third set to earn the sweep over Walsh, 3-0, in the Gannon-Edinboro Tournament. Seven Lady Knights registered a kill in the match with Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) posting a match-best 11 kills.

  • Gannon used a fast start to open up a 6-1 lead after back-to-back kills from Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) and force a Walsh timeout. The Lady Knights continued to apply pressure and stretched their edge to 10-2 after two service aces from Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder). Gannon went on to close out the first frame, 25-18.
  • Walsh fought back in the second stanza opening up an early 10-7 advantage to force a Gannon timeout. The Lady Knights battled back to lock the contest, 16-16, after a Cavalier service error. Gannon closed the frame with a 9-5 run to earn the win the second set, 25-21.
  • Both teams found themselves deadlocked at 12-12 in the third frame before Gannon created a 15-13 advantage after an Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) kill. Walsh fought back to open up a late 24-22 advantage after a 4-0 run. The Lady Knights responded with a 6-2 run of their own which was highlighted by a match-winning service ace from Katie Becht (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) to seal the 28-26 win and 3-0 sweep.

GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon held the advantage in kills (43-35), assists (39-32) and digs (48-45).
  • Gannon recorded its fourth sweep of the season.  
  • The Lady Knights posted a .227 hitting percentage in comparison to the Cavaliers .132.
  • Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) distributed a match-best 32 assists. It was her fourth straight match recording at least 30 assists.
  • Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) notched a match-high and season-best 11 kills.
