KEY SEQUENCE

The Gannon softball team beat Lock Haven in the first game of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship, 7-5, advancing to the winner-take-all championship game Saturday afternoon. Gannon is making its second consecutive trip to the championship game after capturing the PSAC Tournament Championship for the first time in program history in 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lock Haven took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Rachel Gricoski's RBI single down the left field line, scoring Faith Ceely from second base.
In the third, Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) put Gannon up 2-1 when she drove in Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) with a triple to center field.
Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) sent home Perich the next at-bat with a hit to left center.
Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) retired all three LHU batters faced in the bottom of the third.
In the fourth, Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) made it 4-1 with a solo home run to left field.
Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) hit Gannon's second homer of the game in the sixth inning to give Gannon a four-run lead.
Perich put Gannon up 6-1 in the seventh with an RBI double to center field, scoring Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) from second base.
Taliani added another run when she drove in Perich with a single through the right side.
LHU's Bekah Slattery hit a solo homer to center field in the bottom of the inning. It was her third home run of the tournament.
Chloe Kennedy scored a pair of Bald Eagle runs with a double to left field, cutting it to 7-4.
Kennedy scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.

GAME NOTES

Perich had three RBI on a double and a triple.
Szajn went 3-for-3 with one run.
Taliani had two hits and two RBI.
DeMatteis and Stocker had one home run apiece.
Beining earned her 17th win of the season. She had four strikeouts in the victory.
Rebecca Tatone (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) came in for relief in the final inning, earning her second save in the past 24 hours.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

Stocker recorded her team-best 10th homer of the season, while DeMatteis hit her fifth.
Perich's triple is her first of the season.
Beining recorded her 100th strikeout of the season in the win.
