Gannon Softball Team Falls to Lock Haven in PSAC Title Game

KEY SEQUENCE
  • After winning game one of the championship series, the Gannon softball team lost to Lock Haven in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament title game Saturday afternoon in Quakertown, Pa., 6-4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lock Haven plated a run in the bottom of the second inning when Traci Kromko was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  • Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) tied it up in the top of the third with a solo home run to right center, her second of the tournament.
  • Rachel Gricoski put the Bald Eagles up 2-1 in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single through the left side.
  • Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) tied the game once again at 2-2 in the fourth with a solo home run to left field.
  • Lock Haven had a big fourth inning, tallying four runs on four hits and two errors.
  • Gannon got two runs back in the fifth with Sarah Ingerick's (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) two-run homer to center field.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Wilp went 3-for-3 with a home run.
  • Megan Dietrick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) had two hits in the loss.
  • Ingerick had a game-high two RBI.
  • Gannon out-hit Lock Haven, 8-7.
  • Lock Haven committed three errors, while Gannon had two.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) got the start in the circle, pitching three innings and recording two strikeouts.
  • Rebecca Tatone (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) saw three innings of relief action. She made one strikeout and did not surrender any runs.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon was making its third appearance in the PSAC Tournament championship game in the last five years.
  • Lock Haven won the sixth title in program history and first since 2009.
  • Gannon played a tournament-high seven games this week.
  • Stocker recorded her team-high 11th home run of the season.
  • Ingerick's homer was her 10th of the season and fifth of the tournament.
  • Wilp's home run was her third of the season and second of the tournament.
  • The Lady Knights set a new single-season home run record with their 50th homer of the season, eclipsing last season's total of 48.
  • Saturday's championship game was Wilp's 11th multi-hit game of the year, while it was Dietrick's eighth.
  • It was Ingerick's eighth multiple-RBI performance of the season.
  • Dietrick hit her 10th double of the year.
