  • The sixth-seeded Gannon softball team opened up the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional with an 8-2 loss to third-seeded West Chester at Lady Jacket Field in Institute, West Virginia Thursday afternoon. The Lady Knights drop into the consolation bracket and will face West Virginia State Friday at 1:30 p.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • West Chester got an early lead on Gannon with three runs in the first inning. Courtney Stump drove in two runs with a double to right center. Jaime Klemas sent home Stump with a hard infield hit to shortstop.
  • The Golden Rams built on their lead in the second with Annamarie Hartman's two-run double to left center.
  • Gannon responded with two runs in the top of the third. Rachel Tanilli's (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) RBI hit to center field scored Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) drove in Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) with a single to right center.
  • West Chester's Emily Maseth, Stump and Klemas all recorded RBI hits in the fourth to make it an 8-2 game.

  • Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) and Perich had two hits apiece.
  • Tanilli and Stocker recorded RBI.
