Gannon Returns to PSAC Championship Game For Second Straight Year with Win Over Kutztown

GAME ONE: THE RUNDOWN

KEY SEQUENCE
  • The Gannon softball team advanced to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship game for the third time in the last five years with a 3-1 win over Kutztown Friday afternoon. The Lady Knights will face Lock Haven at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Gannon will need to win two games to capture the championship.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the second inning, Megan Dietrick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) drove in Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) from second base with an RBI single through the right side.
  • Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) put the Lady Knights up 2-0 in the fourth with a solo home run to right field.
  • Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) cracked her third home run of the afternoon and first of the game in the fifth inning to give Gannon a 3-0 lead.
  • Kutztown got one run back in the sixth when Dani Nordyk scored Hannah Auvil on an RBI to right center.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Taliani had a homer and a double
  • Ingerick and Dietrick also registered one RBI apiece.
  • Gannon out-hit Kutztown, 7-5.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) tossed her 16th win of the season, recording four strikeouts.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Ingerick's homer was her team-high ninth of the season, while Taliani recorded her fourth home run of the year.
  • Taliani's and Ingerick's homers bring Gannon's season total to a conference-best 45, averaging just over one per game.
  • Taliani recorded her 10th multi-hit game of the season and her 13th double of the season.
  • Gannon ranks third in the conference in doubles with 82.
  • Gannon is back in the PSAC Championship game for the third time in the last five seasons.
  • The Lady Knights captured the program's first PSAC Championship last spring. They were defeated by California (Pa.) in their first appearance in the championship game back in 2015.
