GAME ONE: THE RUNDOWN

KEY SEQUENCE
  • The Gannon softball team held off a charging West Chester team Friday afternoon and picked up an 8-7 win in the 2019 PSAC Tournament. The Lady Knights will now face Kutztown at 3:20 p.m. with a chance to advance to the PSAC Championship game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Knights jumped on West Chester early as Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) hit a solo home run in her first at-bat.
  • Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) drove in Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) with an infield RBI to give Gannon a 2-0 edge.
  • Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) capped a three-run first inning with a crack to center field, scoring Taliani from second base.
  • West Chester got one run back in the second with Jaime Klemas' sacrifice fly to left field.
  • In the bottom of the second, Ingerick used her second at-bat of the game to crush a two-run home run to left field to make it 5-1.
  • West Chester had a big fourth inning, scoring five runs on three big hits. Bri Garber and Klemas recorded two-run homers.  
  • Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) tied it up in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run down the right field line.
  • Taliani sent home Ingerick with a single up the middle, putting Gannon up 7-6.
  • Klemas tied it up in the fifth when she cracked her second home run of the game with a solo shot to right center.
  • Once again, Wilp came in clutch in the fifth with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) from third base to make it 8-7.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Ingerick went 3-for-4 with three RBI on two homers.
  • Wilp was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, a double and a home run.
  • Taliani also had two RBI.
  • Gannon out-hit West Chester, 10-6.
  • The Lady Knights committed two errors.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) picked up her 10th win of the season.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) got the start and pitched three innings.
  • Rebecca Tatone (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) came in for two innings of relief in the sixth and picked up her first career save. She had one strikeout.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Ingerick had her 18th multi-hit game and her eighth multi-RBI game of the year.
  • Wilp had her 10th multi-hit game and her third multi-RBI game of the season.
  • Taliani recorded her eighth multi-RBI performance of the year.
  • Ingerick brought her season home run total to eight.
  • Wilp recorded her second homer of the season and her team-high 14th double.
  • The Lady Knights have a conference-high 43 homers this year.
