Gannon Softball Team Stays Alive with 5-4 Win Over Seton Hill

 
GAME ONE: THE RUNDOWN

KEY SEQUENCE
  • After surrendering four Seton Hill runs in the first inning, the Gannon softball team clawed back for a 5-4 win over the Griffins Thursday afternoon, advancing to play West Chester Friday at 12:30 p.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first inning, Seton Hill's Chelsea Rohan singled to right field, scoring Christiana Skrabak from second base. Alexis Vargas made it 2-0 with an RBI single down the left field line.
  • Devyn Terry capped the four-run first inning for the Griffins with a two-run double to left center.
  • In the bottom of the first, Gannon got two runs back on a pair of bases-loaded walks. Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) drove in Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) with an RBI single up the middle to cut it to 4-3.
  • Ingerick kicked off the second inning with a solo home run to left center.
  • Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) put the Lady Knights ahead for good with a deep single to center field, scoring Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) from second base.
  • Seton Hill loaded the base in the seventh inning, but Trinity Cumo grounded out to third base to end the game at 5-4.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) and Megan Dietrick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) both registered two-hit games.
  • Gannon out-hit Seton Hill, 8-7.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) struck out three in her ninth win of the season.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Dietrick recorded her ninth double of the season. She also had two doubles earlier in the day against Lock Haven.
  • Ingerick's homer was her sixth of the year.
  • It was Ingerick's 17th multi-hit game of the season, while it was Dietrick's seventh.
  • Gannon went 3-2 against Seton Hill this season, winning three in a row.
