KEY SEQUENCE
  • After a warning was issued by the home plate umpire to Gannon pitcher Ty Phelps (Pomeroy, Ohio/Meigs), Seton Hill converted on the next pitch with a three-run homer. The big blast blew the game open and capped a six-run seventh inning to give Seton Hill a 10-4 lead. It was part of a difficult day for the Golden Knights, who were eliminated with a pair of losses in the PSAC Tournament on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon notched a pair of singles to short from Justin Hamm (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) and Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge), putting two runners on base early. Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) lifted a three-run homer to deep left field for the first inning lead.
  • Seton Hill answered in the second with two runs to trim its deficit to just one. The Griffins recorded back-to-back run producing doubles in the second. Eric Sapp (Deerfield, Ohio/Southeast) made a sliding play to record the final out of the second on a bunt attempt, and the left-hander tossed a scoreless third.
  • The Griffins eventually tied the game at three on a double steal as Nick Stotler stole home on a close play. The tie did not last long as Gannon responded in the bottom of the fourth with a Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) single to take a 4-3 lead.
  • Stotler delivered the tying run, at the plate this time, with a single to center. John Bender (Wilson, N.Y. / Wilson) entered to pitch in the sixth and worked around a walk for a scoreless frame. The Griffins pieced together a six-run seventh inning to surge ahead 10-4 over the Golden Knights.
  • Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge) sliced into the deficit with a long home run out to center field in the bottom if the seventh as Gannon trailed 10-5. Dominic Mori (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) launched a double that wedged into the bottom of the left field wall, scoring Cardy to make it 10-6.
  • Neither side scored over the final two innings as the Griffins sealed the 10-6 decision to advance in the conference tournament.
