  • The Gannon softball team recorded just three hits in a 4-0 shutout loss to California (Pa.) Sunday afternoon at the SRU Softball Complex.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sierra Besser-Paul put the Vulcans on the scoreboard in the opening inning with an RBI single to left field, scoring Brooke Wilson.
  • California's Taylor Robblee hit her team-high seventh homer of the year in the third inning to make it 2-0.
  • In the fourth inning, Wilson drove in Kaitlyn Corle on a hit up the middle. In the next at-bat, Robblee scored Wilson on an infield RBI single.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Game one was Gannon's sixth shutout loss of the year.
  • Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area), Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) and Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) all registered hits for GU.
  • Gannon was out-hit by California, 10-3.
  • California committed one error.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) had five strikeouts in four innings in the circle.

  • Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run home run in the seventh inning Sunday afternoon to lead the Gannon softball team to a 5-2 win over California (Pa.) at the SRU Softball Complex.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Robblee hit her second home run in as many games to put California up 2-0 in the third inning.
  • Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) cut it to one in the fourth when she drove in Taliani with a double to left center.
  • In the sixth inning, Stocker hit her team-high sixth homer to tie it up.
  • Taliani crushed a three-run homer to center field in the seventh, her second of the year.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) sat down all three batters she faced in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Stocker went 4-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a homer.
  • Taliani had her fifth multi-hit game of the year, recording a double and a homer.
  • Ingerick and Smith also notched hits.
  • Beining picked up her seventh win of the year, striking out four in the process.
  • Gannon out-hit Gannon, 8-6.
  • California had four errors.
