KEY SEQUENCE
  • Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) scored on back-to-back free position shots 20 minutes into the game to get Gannon to within a closer margin with 9:37 left until halftime, but the No. 7 Golden Rams scored the final three goals of the half to head into the break up 12-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team got a shot off until nearly three minutes in when Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) ripped a shot off the post. After a few turnovers, West Chester got on the board first at the 24:49 mark. It didn't take long for Gannon to answer though, as Eileen Kehrig (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) grabbed the ensuing draw, starting a run that saw Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) notch an unassisted tally to tie it up.
  • Solid ball movement helped the Golden Rams go back into the lead shortly after, and the visitors controlled possession for the next 10-plus minutes to steadily build a lead. They went on to score eight straight to push their lead to 9-1 by the 11:14 mark.
  • After that goal to put West Chester up eight, Gannon grabbed the next draw and put together two straight solid possessions. Rotondo attacked quickly on the first to set up a free position, tucking her shot past the West Chester goalie with 10:38 left until the half. The junior got another free position a minute later, and cashed in once again to cut it to a 9-3 game.
  • Each team got some extended possessions over the next few minutes, but it was West Chester that cashed in first, starting its 3-0 run to head into the break. The Golden Rams kept the pressure up in the second half to secure the win.

GAME NOTES
  • Rotondo hopped back on the scoring train, netting two goals on just three shots. She added a ground ball and a caused turnover as well.
  • Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) was all over the field, snagging three ground balls and five draw controls.
