KEY SEQUENCE
  • Three straight goals from Gannon got the Lady Knights back to within six early in the second half. IUP followed up quickly with a pair of scores within the next minute from Ally Burrows to start pushing the lead higher.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crimson Hawks got off to a strong start with three goals in the first six minutes of the game. That helped open up a run of nine straight for the hosts to build a lead by the 3:42 mark of the first half.
  • Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) got the Knights on the board with 2:30 left after she recovered a ground ball on a Caroline Mauck (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville) shot. She then cut into the lead even more with 42 ticks left, taking advantage of an IUP turnover to make it 9-2 at the break.
  • Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) grabbed her own rebound on the first shot of the second half and converted the second opportunity to get Gannon within six just 32 seconds into the period. IUP worked quickly to wrestle the momentum back though, winning each of the next three draw controls and scoring quickly to push it back out to 12-3 by the 28:17 mark.
  • Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored on a free position to stop the IUP run, and Courtney Young (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) made it 15-5 off a feed from Maura McCabe (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) with 18:33 on the clock. Indiana followed that up with a score, but Gannon answered with three straight goals, with Rotondo grabbing two quick ones and Tufts adding her second with 6:47 remaining to make it 16-8.
