GAME ONE: THE RUNDOWN

KEY SEQUENCE
  • The Gannon softball team bounced back from a two-game skid Saturday afternoon with a 5-3 win over local rival Edinboro at McConnell Family Stadium. Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) had two hits, including a solo home run, and three RBI to lead the Lady Knights.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first inning, Edinboro got out to an early lead on Olivia Jankowski's sacrifice bunt, scoring Danna Heh from third base.
  • In the bottom of the inning, Ingerick scored the tying run on her third homer of the season.
  • Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) gave Gannon the lead four batters later when she scored Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) on a single to right field.
  • Jankowski hit an RBI double to left field in the third to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Ingerick and Szajn both recorded RBIs in the fourth inning to put Gannon back ahead 4-2.
  • Gannon built on its lead in the sixth inning when Ingerick drove in Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) on a hard hit to right center.
  • Edinboro got one run back in the top of the seventh on Courtney Allen's pinch-hit homer to center field.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Ingerick led Gannon with two hits, one home run and three RBI.
  • Tanilli had two hits including a triple, the second in her three-year career. 
  • Wilp cracked two doubles to bring her team-high total to 10.
  • Gannon out-hit Edinboro in the win, 12-6.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) went the distance in the circle, allowing six hits and striking out one. It was her sixth win of the year.

  • Leading just 3-2 after five innings, the Gannon softball team piled on four runs in the sixth inning and held on to beat Edinboro 7-3 Saturday afternoon, picking up a crucial PSAC doubleheader sweep of the Fighting Scots.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Szajn plated an unearned run in the first inning, scoring from second base on an Edinboro error.
  • Wilp hit her first homer of the year in the second inning to give the Lady Knights a two-run edge.
  • Edinboro tied it up in the fifth when Jankowski hit a two-run bomb, her fourth of the season.
  • Tanilli came through clutch in the fifth inning with an RBI single through the left side, scoring Ingerick.
  • Gannon broke the game open in the sixth, ignited by Szajn's two-run single down the left field line.
  • The next at-bat, Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) belted a two-run homer to left field, her fifth of the year, making it 7-2.
  • In the top of the seventh, Edinboro plated a run on Heh's RBI ground-out to shortstop.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Ingerick, Szajn and Tanilli all recorded two hits in the win.
  • Szajn and Stocker had two RBI apiece.
  • Gannon recorded 11 hits while Edinboro had seven.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) picked up her sixth win of the season after hurling a complete game with seven strikeouts.

  • Gannon is 49-35 in the all-time series with Edinboro dating back to 1977.
  • Ingerick is on a five-game hitting streak.
  • Tanilli and Ingerick recorded two hits apiece in back-to-back games Saturday.
