HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Scoring chances were tough to come by in a tightly contested first quarter, but Kredigner fired in an unassisted tally at 5:27 in the first for a 1-0 lead. Sonoma State responded with the next two goals to close out the opening frame at 3:28 and 1:51.
  • The Lady Knights shut down the Seawolves from that point, led by several key saves from senior goalie Isabelle Vieira (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy). The stifling defense opened the door for the offense to take over, and the Lady Knights did just that with three consecutive goals that spanned into the third quarter. Kredigner lifted the Lady Knights to a tie before Kelly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villia Maria) rifled home a five-meter shot for the lead. Ruh ripped a shot from the left wing to begin the second half as GU expanded the lead to 4-2.
  • SSU posted two of the next three goals, bookending a goal from Ruh in the third, but Fehr shifted all the momentum to the Maroon and Gold with a turning backhand strike for a 6-4 edge. The Seawolves scored the opening goal of the fourth, but two insurance markers from Wiemken (2:35) and Kredinger (1:46) propelled Gannon to a 9-5 victory.
