KEY SEQUENCE
  • It took until the Golden Knights' final chance at the plate to produce offensively, and a pair of two-run home runs from Justin Hamm (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) and Ryan Kalbfus (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) set the table for Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge), who delivered a one-out double to right that scored Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) for a thrilling 6-5 walk-off victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Eric Sapp (Deerfield, Ohio/Southeast) tossed a strike to first base, which nearly picked off the runner for the third out of the frame. Instead, the Mountain Cats cashed in on a pair of Gannon errors to surge ahead 4-0 in the second. Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) got GU on the board with a single to second, plating Ian Steighner (Chicora, Pa./Butler) as Gannon trailed 4-1.
  • Sapp answered back with two more scoreless innings before Benjamin Visnesky (West Mifflin, Pa. / West Mifflin Area ) took over on the mound. Visnesky whirled a scoreless sixth and the Golden Knights called on Alex Dobry (Berryville, Va./Clarke County) for the seventh.
  • Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillian ) led off the bottom of the seventh with a double down the left field line, putting a runner on base for Hamm, who smacked a two-run homer to left on an 0-1 pitch. Luke Callahan (Chardon, Ohio / Chardon ) walked as Kalbfus delivered another two-run shot after pinch hitting for Trey Zeroski (Clinton, Pa. / West Allegheny) to tie the score at five.
  • The Kalbfus home run marked the end of a strong outing for Pitt-Johnstown hurler Ben Foose as Jake Ansell entered the game in relief. After a strikeout, Wetherholt drew a walk and advanced to second after Cardy was plunked with a 2-2 pitch. Quiceno eventually ended the game on a 3-2 pitch, lacing a double to right field as Gannon celebrated the 6-5 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • The walk-off for Quiceno was one of two hits on the day. It also marked the second game-winning hit at home for Quiceno, who launched a home run against Seton Hill in extra innings back on April 7.
  • Sapp delivered a resilient outing in game one, tossing five complete innings. Despite giving up five runs, he surrendered just one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
  • Cardy and Hamm also collected multiple knocks in the game.
  • The Golden Knight pitching staff issued just one walk on the day, while the Mountain Cats walked three.
  • Dobry earned the victory, his second of the season, and first since March 7 against NYIT.
  • Quiceno cracked his seventh double of the season, marking his second extra-base of the series.

KEY SEQUENCE
  • Wetherholt provided Gannon with some early offense, crushing a three-run home run over the netting in right. The Golden Knights used four pitchers in game two, combining to piece together a seven inning three-hitter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Knights jumped ahead to a 3-0 advantage with a three-run blast from Wetherholt. Hess led off the inning with a walk before Dominic Mori (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) punched a single through the right side, putting a pair of runners on base for Wetherholt.
  • Despite some control issues and the Mountain Cats working into several bases loaded situations, the Gannon staff was able to keep UPJ of the scoreboard for the duration of the nightcap.
  • GU tacked on a run on a dropped fly ball the UPJ pitcher as Quiceno raced home for a 4-0 lead. John Bender (Wilson, N.Y. / Wilson) entered to toss the final inning of relief as Gannon collected the series win.
