  • Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) hit a deep ball to left center to score Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) in the eighth inning and lift the Gannon University softball team to a 5-4 comeback win over Lewis University Saturday morning in Clermont, Florida.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lewis got out to an early lead in the first inning when the lead-off batter crushed a solo home run to center field.
  • Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) scored Megan Dietrick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) from third base with an RBI double to left field to tie it up in the third inning.
  • In the bottom of the inning, Lewis' Cassie Shaw made it 3-1 with a two-run hit down the left field line.
  • Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) belted a solo home run to center field in the fourth inning to cut it to 3-2.
  • Elexis Swartzentruber scored Lauren Brennan on an RBI single to center in the bottom of the inning to stretch Lewis' lead back to two runs.
  • In the sixth, Dietrick hit her second double of the game and scored Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) from third base to make it 4-3.
  • Ingerick tied the game in the seventh with a solo home run to center field, her first homer of the season.
  • In the eighth, Stocker drove in Taliani with the game-winning run with a hard hit to the fence.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) sat down the bottom half of Lewis' lineup in the bottom of the inning to grasp the win.  
 
GAME NOTES
  • Ingerick and Stocker both finished with two RBI apiece.
  • Both Ingerick and Stocker also hit their first homers of the season.
  • Dietrick recorded two doubles, one RBI and one run.
  • Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) joined Ingerick, Stocker and Dietrick with two hits in the win.
  • Both teams recorded 10 hits each.
  • DeMatteis earned the win after recorded four strikeouts and allowing just one run.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) got the start and pitched for 2.1 innings.
