  • Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) went 3-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run to lead the Gannon University softball team to a 7-0 shutout against Point Park University Wednesday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) smacked a solo homer in the top of the second to give Gannon a 1-0 edge.
  • In the fourth, Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) built on Gannon's lead with an RBI-double down the left field line.
  • Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) scored Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) on a sacrifice fly to right field in the fifth to make it 3-0.
  • Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) made it 4-0 in the sixth with a hard hit up the middle, scoring Szajn from second base.
  • In the seventh frame, Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) drove in Wilp with a double to left field. Szajn capped the scoring for the Lady Knights with a two-run homer to left.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Szajn was 3-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a home run.
  • Six other players recorded hits for Gannon.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) allowed just three hits while striking out six in a complete seven-inning game.

  • Taliani and Szajn were both 3-for-3 for the Lady Knights in a 4-0 shutout in game two against Point Park University. It was Gannon's fourth-straight win. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon got out to a one-run lead in the second inning when Megan Dietrick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) scored Taliani on an RBI double to left center.
  • In the third inning, Szajn drove in Ashley Bower (Middleport, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland) with a double to right center. Taliani made it 3-0 when she scored Szajn on a double to right center.
  • Taliani recorded her second RBI of the game in the seventh inning with a single up the middle, scoring Morgan Nyman (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) from third base.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Taliani was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
  • Szajn was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI.
  • Dietrick also had a multi-hit game with a double and an RBI.
