  • The Gannon University softball team was shut out by Ashland University, 8-0, Thursday morning at Legends Way Park in Clermont, Florida.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After two scoreless innings, Ashland recorded four hits in the third to jump out to a 4-run lead.
  • The Eagles added to their lead in the fifth inning, once again recording four clutch hits, to score three runs.
  • With one out in the sixth inning, Ashland's Paige Summers hit an RBI double to end the game at 8-0.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Ashland out-hit Gannon 13-3.
  • Neither team registered an error.
  • Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) recorded hits for GU in the loss.

  • With the game knotted at 1-1 in the seventh inning, Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) hit a walk-off triple to right field lead the Gannon University softball team to a 2-1 win over St. Cloud State University Thursday morning in Clermont, Florida.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) scored Kr. DeMatteis on an RBI ground-out to the shortstop to give Gannon a one-run lead in the third inning.
  • St. Cloud State tied it up in the top of the fourth on Megan Conrads' RBI hit to right field.
  • Both teams recorded just two hits apiece over the next 2.5 innings before Kr. DeMatteis sent home Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Kr. DeMatteis went 3-for-3 with the game-winning RBI for the Lady Knights.
  • Ingerick and Wilp also recorded hits in the win. Ingerick also had an RBI.
  • St. Cloud State out-hit Gannon, 8-5.
  • The Huskies recorded two errors.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) fanned a season-high six batters in her first win of the year.
