KEY SEQUENCE
  • Gannon netted a pair of goals shortly after halftime to cut it to 9-5 and put some pressure on, but Young Harris answered with two quick tallies on their way to nine straight to close the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions scored the first two goals of the game inside the first two minutes to jump ahead. Two more flurries of two goals each got the hosts out to a 6-0 advantage midway through the opening half before things settled in a bit.
  • Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) got the Lady Knights on the board with a free position score at the 9:48 mark of the half, and Gannon closed the period with some strong play. Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added a score on a Caroline Mauck (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville) assist, and Rotondo netted another free position goal as the final score of the half to make it 8-3.
  • Tufts converted on her team's first shot of the second half at the 27:18 mark, and Jessica Hudak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) made a YHC turnover hurt when she added another goal three minutes later to make it 9-5. The Mountain Lions won the ensuing draw though, and Leigh Anne Turner pushed the margin back to five in just 21 seconds.
  • The Knights put four of their final five shots on goal, but weren't able to crack the scoreboard against the hard-closing Young Harris side.

GAME NOTES
  • Young Harris is the defending Gulf South Conference champion. Their two losses on the season have come to No. 9 Rollins and an undefeated Alabama-Huntsville squad.
  • Tufts, a freshman, has scored multiple goals in each of the first two games of her career.
  • Fellow freshman Haylee Tatar (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier) recorded her first career point with her assist on Hudak's second-half goal.
  • After concluding its spring break trip, Gannon won't leave the state of Pennsylvania again for a game until a potential NCAA regional.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns to Erie for its home opener next week, hosting Wheeling Jesuit on March 14.
  • The 4 p.m. first draw from McConnell Family Stadium will feature live video and live stats.
  • The Lady Knights are 2-0 all-time against the Cardinals.
  • Wheeling Jesuit is 1-2 in the early part of the season, and will face Alderson Broaddus Sunday before heading to Gannon.
