GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • After Gannon locked it down on the defensive side in the third period, things got chippy when Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) absorbed contact after penetrating into the lane with 3:16 on the clock. A resulting scrum ended with a technical foul being administered to Ciara Rosten, fouling her out of the game. Gannon went on to make four straight foul shots, pushing its lead to 14 points, and that was enough to withstand a fourth quarter barrage from the hosts prior to the final media timeout in the game. With the McComb Fieldhouse jumping, Edinboro would not be able to trim the deficit to less than four points as Gannon salted the conference tournament clash away.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) opened what would be a strong first half for the Lady Knights with a three just 32 seconds into the game. Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) found Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) open with a pass across the lane for a quick 5-0 lead.
  • Ciara Rosten pushed the hosts ahead with a three at 6:52, but Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) stepped into a three on the next possession to hand the lead back to the Lady Knights. Off an Edinboro turnover, Mitchell dumped one underneath to an open L. Tewes who turned and scored through contact. The Fighting Scots ultimately grabbed the lead to close the first quarter, but Gannon grabbed it right back with a three from Mitchell with a three pointer.
  • Rourke hounded a player, stole the ball and raced ahead for a layup to put Gannon on top 23-20 with 8:48 remaining in the first half. Mitchell doubled that lead with another three, marking Gannon's largest lead in the frame until Obenrader canned a trey at 4:12 to push Gannon ahead 33-26.
  • Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) stepped into a jump shot in the paint that proved to be the last bucket of the half for Gannon. Michaela Barnes scored with just three ticks left in the second quarter, to send the third-seeded Fighting Scots into intermission down by four at 35-31.
  • The Lady Knights came out inspired in the third quarter, holding Edinboro scoreless until the 4:06 mark in the frame. Meanwhile, Gannon surged ahead offensively with an 8-0 run that included six from Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) for a 43-31 lead.
  • After two foul shots from Jontay Walton at 3:16, Gannon came down the floor on the next offensive possession when Rosten fouled out of the game. Mitchell and McKinney dropped in four foul shots as Gannon led by 14 at 49-35.
  • On the ensuing offensive possession, a locked in Mitchell drilled a three that pushed Gannon ahead by 15 before McKinney followed suit for a 16 point edge at 55-39 with 1:54 left in the third. Mitchell countered a pair of Barnes foul shots with a layup at the 37 second mark of the third, propelling Gannon to a 59-43 edge through three quarters.
  • After Michelle Jahn three, Mitchell put down two foul shots before LaCava converted at the foul line as Gannon led 62-46. The hosts would not go quietly though, fueled by a home crowd that became more frenzied with each basket. A layup from Allison Thompson sparked a run, followed by two three-pointers by Barnes and one from Jahn as Edinboro found itself down five, 62-57, with 5:38 left in the game.
  • Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) hit two much needed foul shots for Gannon coming out of the fourth quarter media timeout and the Fighting Scots were never able to get any closer than to within four with a late three.

GAME NOTES
  • While committing nine turnovers in the opening half, Gannon shot 14-of-25 (56%) from the field and 5-of-11 (45.5%) from three.
  • Gannon held Edinboro without a field goal in the third quarter, with each of the Fighting Scots 12 points in the frame coming at the charity stripe.
  • Monday marked Gannon's first road victory in the PSAC Tournament since joining the league. All other wins had come at home or on neutral courts.
  • Both wins over Edinboro this season came on the road for Gannon.
  • Mitchell bounced back with a career-high 20 points, including 11 points in the third quarter. She finished 5-of-8 from the floor, 3-of-4 from three-point range and 7-of-8 at the foul line.
  • Mitchell was one of three Lady Knights in double figures. McKinney added 15 points off the bench in 24 minutes, her second highest scoring output this season behind a 19 point effort earlier this year against Edinboro on January 16.
  • Shooting 48.9% from the floor, Gannon notched its best shooting performance since January 12 against Seton Hill. Additionally, Gannon had its best three-point shooting percentage (41.2%) since January 5 against California (Pa.).
  • Gannon moves to 10-7 all-time in the PSAC Tournament, while coach Jim Brunelli ups his record to 5-3 in conference tournament games.
  • Rourke had 12 points before halftime, posting her fifth consecutive game in double digits. She added three assists and three big blocks along with two steals in a complete night.
  • Obenrader pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and added eight points in 28 minutes of action.
  • For Edinboro, Barnes notched her eighth-straight game with 20 or more points, finishing with 29.
