GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • Gannon got Kutztown sweating midway through the second half, rattling off four straight goals to cut its deficit to four, but the Golden Bears pushed the margin back to five a minute later, and kept answering any comeback attempt.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kutztown netted the game's first score on the opening possession just 35 seconds in, but the Lady Knights answered less than two minutes later when they forced a turnover and Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) found Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) for the equalizer.
  • The Golden Bears went up 2-1 a few minutes later, but both defenses settled in to keep the nets clear until the 11:43 mark of the half. That's when the hosts broke the scoreless streak on a free position goal, the first of three tallies that put them up 5-1 with 8:16 on the clock.
  • Gannon took advantage of a card when Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored a man-up goal, and Shields made it two in a row with a free position with four minutes left. Kutztown would score the final three goals of the half though, and take an 8-3 advantage into the break.
  • Kutztown continued its run with three quick scores in the first two-plus minutes of the second half to build an 11-3 margin, but Gannon began to control possession for a bit. Rotondo kicked off a scoring binge just 40 seconds after Kutztown's last goal, getting an assist from Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), and Caroline Mauck (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville) found Rotondo for another at the 18:12 mark.
  • Gannon got the ball right back on the ensuing draw, and Bower kept the streak going before Rontondo netted her fourth of the day to slice the lead to 11-7 with 15:13 to play. Kutztown answered 54 seconds later though, and followed up the next two Lady Knight scores with goals of their own to keep the guests at bay.

GAME NOTES
  • Rotondo totaled five goals on nine total shots on the day, marking her fifth game with at least four scores this season, and third in a row.
  • Tufts notched a pair of finishes on just three shots, and added three caused turnovers and a ground ball.
  • Eileen Kehrig (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the way with six ground balls and five draw controls, both career highs for the freshman.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon continues a short road swing, making the short trip to crosstown rival Mercyhurst Wednesday afternoon.
  • The 4 p.m. first draw from Tullio Field will feature live video and live stats.
  • The Lady Knights are 15-10 all-time against the Lakers.
  • Mercyhurst is 4-5 (1-3 PSAC) this season after an 18-11 defeat against No. 4 West Chester Saturday.
