KEY SEQUENCE
  • A strong finish to the first half had Gannon tied with Edinboro at the break, and the Lady Knights took the lead early in the second, but after a lull following tying it back up at 5-5, the Fighting Scots rattled off four goals in just over four minutes to take a 9-6 lead. That margin would hold up as the guests managed to keep the ball away from Gannon for much of the final 10 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro's leading scorer Anna Leva got in on the action quickly, notching the first goal of the game just 1:26 in. After some back-and-forth action, the Scots doubled their lead less than eight minutes into the game as the scoring came slowly early on.
  • Gannon got on the board when Caroline Mauck (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville) converted on a free position just a minute later, but Edinboro would go on to build a three-score lead at 4-1 by the time nine minutes remained in the opening half. The guests looked set to control possession once again after winning the next draw, but Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) stuffed a shot and started the clear for the Knights, and Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) cashed in less than a minute later.
  • Gannon grabbed the next draw, and added another quick tally, this time from Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) off a feed from Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell), making it 4-3. The equalizer didn't come quite so quickly, but Jamie Briggs (Spencerport, N.Y/Spencerport) started a run-out with a ground ball, and Rotondo drew the Knights even with an unassisted score on the other end with 4:06 left until the half.
  • Plenty of action happened in between — seven total shots on goal, and three more high or wide — but the final four minutes of the first and first two of the second half went by without a score. That's when Tufts nabbed the first lead of the day for Gannon, skipping a free position shot low to make it 5-4 with 27:42 remaining.
  • Edinboro tied it up after a Gannon turnover on the next possession, and the two teams went up and down the field for a long stretch without either team managing to jump ahead. That changed when Leva and Sophie DePalma scored 50 seconds apart for the Fighting Scots, and though Rotondo scored on a fastbreak to get the Knights back within one, the visitors popped two more quick ones from Sidney Dobbins on the board.
  • Leading 9-6, Edinboro managed to fail a clear and turn the ball over another time, but it stopped three Gannon shots, with one saved, one blocked and one skipping wide. The Fighting Scots next shot was a key insurance goal to go up 10-6 with 6:02 remaining. Rotondo got a feed from Tufts, and put home her fourth of the day despite extra attention, but Edinboro would hold on.

GAME NOTES
  • Rotondo finished with four goals Wednesday, marking her fourth game with at least four in just seven games this season. She's scored at least two goals in 13 straight games, and also added four draw controls against Edinboro.
  • Tufts chipped in with a goal and two assists. It's the second time this season the freshman has posted two assists, and the fifth time in seven games she's put up at least three points. She also added two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.
  • Renwick picked up 13 saves, her third time in the past four games with at least 13.
  • Hayley Latvala (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) put up a career-high four ground balls to lead the Knights, while Eileen Kehrig (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) added three to go with one assist.
