KEY SEQUENCE
  • Gannon tied the game up with just 1:08 to play when Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) shrugged a defender to get to the crease and beat the Lock Haven goalie to the near side, but the Bald Eagles wouldn't let it get to overtime. LHU won the next draw, and got the game-winner on a restart from the endline to earn its first PSAC win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lock Haven got on the board with two quick scores early, going up 2-0 on goals 43 seconds apart. Gannon answered just as quickly though, as Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) took the ensuing draw and scored 30 seconds later to cut the lead in half. Tufts nabbed her second of the game after a sustained possession for the Knights, tying it at 2-2 at the 21:49 mark.
  • The two sides went back and forth over the next five minutes, but it was the Bald Eagles that would break the tie, putting home the rebound after Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) stuffed a shot. That started what became a five-goal run for the hosts, who scored again on a free position and took a 7-2 lead with 14:10 left in the half.
  • Lock Haven won the next draw as well, but a turnover and ground ball from Maura McCabe (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) helped the Knights get the ball into the offensive zone and halt the momentum. McCabe then swung the momentum in Gannon's favor when she finished off a pass from Christina Zeher (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) for a goal with 9:32 on the clock. Rotondo added a free position goal less than two minutes later, and Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) netted an unassisted finish to get the guests back to within two at 7-5 with 3:38 left in the half.
  • The Lady Knights came out on fire to start the second half. After a couple turnovers from Lock Haven, Tufts cashed in on a free position just over six minutes in. The Bald Eagles got off two shots on their next possession, but both were saved by Renwick, and the hosts wouldn't get another shot until after Rotondo, Courtney Young (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) and Tufts again tied it up at 9-9 with 16:43 to play.
  • Neither team would lead by more than one the rest of the way. Lock Haven finished off a sustained possession with a goal to go up 10-9, but Rotondo took over with two straight scores — both on superb slices to the net — to give Gannon its only lead of the game at 11-10 with 10:29 remaining.
  • The Bald Eagles scored the next two, moving back in front with 2:50 on the clock, and they won the next draw, but Bower scooped up a ground ball on an LHU turnover and moved the ball ahead for Rotondo to tie it with 68 seconds to play.

GAME NOTES
  • Rotondo scored five goals in a game for the sixth time in her career. She also moved into 25th place in Gannon's record book with 81 career goals.
  • Tufts bounced back from the first game in her college career without multiple goals to net four Saturday against Lock Haven. Those scores came on just four total shots for the freshman, and she's scoring on two-thirds of her shots this season.
  • Zeher picked up her first career point with her feed to McCabe in the first half.
  • The Lady Knights scored at least 12 goals for the fourth time in their first six games this season.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon heads back home to continue conference play, facing Edinboro Wednesday afternoon.
  • The 4 p.m. first draw from McConnell Family Stadium field will feature live video and live stats.
  • The Lady Knights are 10-1 all-time against the Fighting Scots.
  • Edinboro is 0-7 (0-3 PSAC) this season after suffering a tough 20-3 defeat against No. 8 East Stroudsburg Saturday.
