KEY SEQUENCE
  • Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) went up and under for a layin with 7:39 remaining in the fourth, handing Gannon its first lead since the 3:39 mark of the third quarter, but Ciara Patterson launched a three on the next possession to swing momentum back in favor of Slippery Rock on Senior Day. A big moment in her final collegiate game, Patterson's three pushed The Rock in front 63-61 with 7:23 left, a lead the hosts would not relinquish despite several late charges from the Lady Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) and Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) scored the opening two buckets of the game for the Lady Knights in the first quarter. Daeja Quick lined up a three to push Slippery Rock ahead 7-6 with 7:30 to go in the first, part of an 11-0 run for the hosts that pushed the SRU edge to 15-6.
  • Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) notched consecutive buckets for the Lady Knights, which trimmed the SRU lead to 17-10 with 3:29 left in what was a quick moving first quarter. Obenrader found the bucket for the Lady Knights' last score of the first quarter at 3:05 before Brooke Henderliter lifted SRU to a 19-12 lead after one quarter. Neither team scored a point in the final 2:42 of the frame.
  • Henderliter eventually ballooned the SRU lead to nine points with a layup to open the second quarter, but McKinney fired home a three that followed by a jumper from LaCava as Gannon trailed just 21-17 at the 8:02 mark.
  • Slippery Rock maintained a lead around four points for much of the second quarter, with Gannon bringing the deficit to within two points on three separate occasions down the stretch in the opening half. Ivana Twumasi (Jane and Finch, Ontario/Central Tech) stepped into a three off a pass from Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) with 2:52 in the second, LaCava converted from the charity stripe at 2:14 and L. Tewes converted a layup at 1:13. Tewes was fouled on the play and made the foul shot as Gannon trailed 32-31 with 1:13 left in the half.
  • Mitchell ended the half in a big way for Gannon, banking in a three from the left wing to tie the score at 34 as time expired in the second quarter. Heading into the second half, neither side could mount an advantage larger than three points until Henderliter converted an and-one free throw attempt at 6:24 in the third, which gave SRU a 46-42 lead.
  • Two fastbreak layup opportunities from Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) at 4:53 and 4:16 trimmed the Slippery Rock lead to one point and Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) canned a three out of the media timeout to swing the edge in favor of the Lady Knights at 49-47. The Rock answered with a 13-0 run to push its lead to double digits at 60-49 with 1:01 to go in the third period.
  • Obenrader sank a pair of foul shots to make it a single digit game and Twumasi nailed a three from the left corner off a pass from McKinney to make it 60-54 at the end of the third. Obenrader continued a Gannon surge, hitting a three before Twumasi sliced the deficit to one (60-59) with a fastbreak layup from Mitchell at 8:16 in the fourth.
  • Following a Slippery Rock timeout, McKinney shimmied inside for two, pushing Gannon in front 61-60 with 7:39 left in the game. Patterson responded in a big way, calmly knocking down a triple at the 7:23 mark and Slippery Rock never trailed again.
  • Obenrader tied the score at 63, but Patterson responded once again just 22 seconds later to push Slippery Rock in front for the duration of the game. LaCava brought the Lady Knights to within two (69-67) with a jumper, but The Rock made enough foul shots at the end to hold on for the victory.

GAME NOTES
  • With its spot in the PSAC Women's Basketball Tournament already sewed up, the loss drops Gannon down to the six seed in the western division. Pitt-Johnstown secures the five seed in the conference tournament.
  • Slippery Rock also finishes the regular season with a 9-12 mark in conference play, but misses out on the postseason because of tiebreaker scenarios.
  • The Rock finished with 21 points off turnovers, but had a stretch where they didn't seem to capitalize on Gannon's miscues. The Lady Knights committed 21 turnovers on the afternoon.
  • Gannon had great balance in scoring, with six players posting at least eight points and three in double figures. Obenrader posted a team-high 13 points while Henderliter poured in a game-high 23 points for SRU.
  • Obenrader just missed out on another double-double after pulling down a game-high nine rebounds. She is averaging 10.6 rebounds/game over the last five contests.
  • Despite three turnovers, Twumasi added a career-high nine points in just 14 minutes of action off the bench for Gannon.
  • Rourke has now posted double figures in four consecutive games for Gannon, averaging 15.2 points/game over that span.
  • Gannon was effective from the floor, shooting 44.6% on the afternoon, but attempted 16 fewer shots from the field.
