KEY SEQUENCE
  • A fast-paced start to the game saw Gannon hanging right in there, down just 3-2 after a flurry of goals in the first four minutes. The Storm found the back of the net just 30 seconds later though, starting a run of five straight over a span of 21 minutes as things settled in. That made it 8-2 with 4:17 to go in the opening half, and although the Lady Knights played even the rest of the way, Lake Erie held on for the nonconference win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ivy Carey (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville South) got the Knights on the board first less than a minute in, as Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) found the freshman wide open in front of the net and Carey went low on the Lake Erie goalie to open the scoring. The Storm would score on its first two shots of the game over the next 90 seconds to take the lead.
  • Lake Erie extended it to 3-1 before Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) put a nice move on a defender to create some space and tucked a shot in from the right side to cut it to 3-2 just over four minutes in. The visitors answered quickly to start their run, and while both teams had their chances over the next 20-plus minutes, LEC goalie Harmony Moore had a number of quick reactions to stop seven shots while her team built its lead.
  • Eileen Kehrig (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) took a turnover end-to-end as the clock ticked under a minute to go in the first half, dumping it ahead to Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) for the finish with 56 seconds left in the period to stop the Storm streak. Maddie Krock (Granville, Ohio/Granville) made it two straight for the Knights early in the second half, converting on a quick give-and-go when Shields found her cutting in front of the crease, and Krock flipped a shot over her head to make it 8-4.
  • Lake Erie's leading scorer Anna Spin would take over in the next few minutes, notching three straight to push the lead back out to seven at 11-4 with 22:27 to play. Shields would get Gannon back on the board as she found a scoring touch, netting the first of back-to-back goals on a feed from Rotondo, and the second unassisted after a nifty spin move to beat a defender.
  • Rotondo made it three straight and cut the lead to 11-7 at the 7:50 mark with a rocket from just inside the scoring area. The Storm would score the next three to cut short Gannon's comeback attempt, but Courtney Young (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) gave the Knights the final goal of the game off a Haylee Tatar (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier) dish.

GAME NOTES
  • Rotondo was one of two Knights to pocket a pair of goals, pushing her multi-goal streak to 11 consecutive games.
  • Shields has posted at least three points in each of her last three games after recording two goals and two assists against the Storm.
  • Tufts found the back of the net for the fifth straight game to continue her streak to start her college career.
  • Carey's game-opening score was the first goal of her career.
  • Gannon goalie Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) stuffed 14 shots against Lake Erie, the second consecutive game putting up 14 saves.
