  • The Gannon University softball team broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to earn its fifth straight win Friday afternoon against Clarion University.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Clarion broke through with a run in the bottom of the first on Jessica Cartia's RBI double.
  • Ashley Bower (Middleport, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland) tied it up in the third inning with an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Megan Dietrick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon).
  • Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) put the Lady Knights on top the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area).
  • In the fourth, Clarion's Haley Pszyk scored Alexis Bole on an RBI single down the left field line, tying it up 2-2.
  • Gannon had a three-run inning in the sixth to seal the deal, sparked by Rachel Tanilli's (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) score on a wild pitch.
  • Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) kept the inning going with a two-run double down the right field line, scoring Dietrick and Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional).
 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Bower, Wilp and Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) had multi-hit performances for Gannon.
  • Wilp finished the game with two RBI while Bower and Stocker had one apiece.

  • Leading 10-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Gannon University softball team held off a late five-run Clarion University rally to hold on for a 10-9 win Friday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Clarion got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to Moriah Lynn's two-RBI hit up the middle.
  • Stocker got one run back for Gannon in the third inning with a single up the middle, scoring Wilp.
  • Smith tied it up in the fourth when she drove in Taliani with an RBI single.
  • Gannon busted it open in the fifth inning, scoring six runs and recording seven hits. Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) started it with a two-run homer to center field.
  • Taliani scored Gannon's third run of the inning on a Clarion fielding error.
  • Smith smacked a two-run homer to center field to make it 7-2.
  • Ingerick scored Dietrick on an RBI double to cap the inning at 8-2.
  • In the sixth inning, Taliani scored Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) on a single up the middle.
  • Clarion showed some life in the sixth inning, scoring two runs to cut it to 9-4.
  • In the seventh, Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) drove in Ingerick on an RBI single up the middle for Gannon's final run of the game.
  • Clarion gave Gannon a scare with a late rally in the seventh inning, scoring five runs, two on bases-loaded walks.  
 
GAME NOTES
  • Ingerick and Taliani had four hits apiece for the Lady Knights.
  • Smith and Wilp also had multi-hit games.
  • Gannon had 16 hits while Clarion had seven.
  • Both teams had two errors apiece.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) recorded five strikeouts in a complete game, picking up her fourth win of the year.
