KEY SEQUENCE
  • IUP whittled its way back in front at the end of the third quarter with a layup from Brittany Robinson as time expired and the Crimson Hawks opened the final frame with a 12-4 scoring spurt to pull ahead 58-50 with 6:23 left in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • IUP raced out of the gates to take a 10-0 lead just over four minutes into the game. Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) broke a scoreless drought for Gannon, notching the first bucket of the afternoon at 6:16 and a pair of foul shots from Aiora Rivas (Ibiza, Spain/IES CTEIB) cut the deficit to 13-4 at the 5:11 mark of the opening quarter.
  • A quick 6-0 scoring run for Gannon, highlighted by a trey from Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) at 2:05, brought the Lady Knights to within three at 13-10 with 1:20 remaining in the first frame. Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) took a crisp pass from Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) and finished with 30 seconds left in the first before converting a free throw with two ticks left in the opening frame as Gannon trailed 15-13.
  • After back-to-back Crimson Hawk layups, Ivana Twumasi (Jane and Finch, Ontario/Central Tech) converted a layup and foul shot at 8:35 to once again trim the GU deficit to three points. Mitchell raced ahead for a layup on the fastbreak at 6:11 and Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) stuck a jumper at 4:46, bringing Gannon to within six points on each occasion. Mitchell sliced into the IUP lead with a layup at 2:49 and Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) made two free throws as the Lady Knights trailed 34-31 at intermission.
  • Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) scored just under 30 seconds into the second half as Gannon trailed 34-33, but once again the Crimson Hawks answered on the offensive end, notching the next five points to take a 39-33 lead. A layup (8:15) and three (6:33) from Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) pulled Gannon to within one point once again at 39-38 as the Lady Knights began to mount their comeback attempt.
  • A steal and score for Mitchell put the Lady Knights up one, 42-41, but IUP gained the lead back on its next trip up the floor. Another bucket for Mitchell swung momentum back in favor of the Lady Knights at 44-43 and a jumper from McKinney pushed that edge to three points at 46-43. IUP scored the last two buckets of the third frame, including a buzzer-beating layup for Robinson to hand IUP a 47-46 lead heading into the fourth.
  • The Crimson Hawks outscored Gannon 19-6 in the final frame, ultimately grabbing a double-digit lead a little more than halfway in, to pull away for the road win.
