KEY SEQUENCE
  • After seeing its lead slip down to just three points at 56-53 after Gannon closed the third quarter on a run, Seton Hill scored the first four points of the fourth, then followed the Lady Knights' first basket with back-to-back 3-pointers as part of what would become a 12-2 run that made it 68-55 with 5:19 left to play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With both teams getting up and down the floor in the early going, Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) buried a 3-pointer and followed with a bucket two minutes later to stake the Knights to a 5-4 lead. The Griffins shot ahead 10-5, but baskets on three straight possessions put the hosts back in front 11-10.
  • The pace would not slow up through the rest of the first half, as Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) finished off the first half with a 16-foot jumper after a Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) offensive rebound to give the Knights a 19-17 lead after 10 minutes. After the two sides traded scores early in the second, Tewes swiped a pass and dished to Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion), who completed the layup and three-point play to put Gannon up 24-20 at the 8:31 mark.
  • Seton Hill followed up with a three-point play of their own from Katie Nolan, which started a 12-4 run for the Griffins that made it 32-28 near the midway mark of the second quarter. The guests pushed their lead as high as seven at 41-24 with a layup that capped a 7-2 run and drew a Gannon timeout, but Rourke closed the half with a layup that kept the Lady Knights within five at the break.
  • Rourke made it eight straight Gannon points scored by the senior around halftime with the first two Knights baskets of the second half, but those came around a pair of 3-pointers for the Griffins on back-to-back possessions that made it a double-digit lead at 49-38 just over two minutes into the third quarter.
  • A 3-pointer from SHU at the 3:39 mark once again pushed the lead to 10 for the guests, but it was the final field goal of the quarter for the Griffins. Elise Torrence (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) took over the offense for the final three minutes of the quarter, netting three buckets to help the Knights pull back to within one possession at 56-53 by the end of the third.
  • Gannon would get a three-point play from Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) after Seton Hill's run to get it back to a 10-point game. Two straight baskets from Tewes and a pair of free throws from Rourke got the hosts back to single digits momentarily, but the Griffins were clutch at the foul line to hold on.

GAME NOTES
  • Rourke registered a new career-high with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting and just missed out on a double-double with nine rebounds. Rourke notched her second 20-point effort in the past three outings and is averaging 19.3 points/game in that stretch.
  • After dropping in a career-high 29 points in the first meeting this season with Seton Hill, Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) was blanketed by the Griffins and scored just two points on 1-of-5 shooting from the floor.
  • In what has been a strong point all season, the Gannon bench contributed in a big way tonight. The Lady Knights 37-12 in the contest, led by 13 points from Obenrader.
  • After limiting Pitt-Johnstown to just one three last Saturday, the Lady Knights converted one three on 12 attempts.
  • Obenrader has grabbed at least five rebounds in each of the past two contests.
  • After tying a season-high in scoring last time out, H. Tewes notched a strong stat line of eight points and five assists.
  • The combination of Megan Marecic (19) and Cheyenne Trest (21) combined for 40 of the Griffins 83 points in the contest.
  • Big second and fourth quarters proved to be the difference for Seton Hill as the Griffins racked up 53 points in that 20 minute span.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns to the floor this Saturday, February 9 against fourth-ranked IUP at 1:00 PM inside the Hammermill Center.
