Help Bring Hawaii To The Hammermill Center Saturday

ERIE, Pa. — Gannon Athletics invites all fans to help bring Hawaii to the Hammermill Center this Saturday, as the Knights help make a wish come true for a young girl with the help of Make-A-Wish.

Gannon asks all fans to wear their favorite Hawaiian shirt and island-themed attire to Saturday's games, which feature both the Lady Knights and Golden Knights facing off against top-10 Indiana (Pa.) squads beginning at 1 p.m.

The games will also feature a contest for best Hawaiian shirt, performances by Polynesian dancers and drummer, and numerous other prizes and giveaways. The first 100 fans through the doors of each game will also receive free chips and queso, courtesy of Moe's.

The NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) established the Make-A-Wish partnership in 2003 and has since become one of the foundation's largest and most consistent contributors. Division II has raised nearly $6 million toward granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, and almost 700 "wishes" have been granted through Division II contributions.

Gannon was seventh in Make-A-Wish fundraising during the 2017-18 academic year, collecting $10,000 for the organization. That was part of more than $474,000 raised by all of Division II, and helped the PSAC take the top spot of all conferences for the fourth consecutive year, raising a collective $70,961.

Gannon was one of nine schools who raised at least $10,000 — the national average cost of granting a wish — automatically earning the university a wish reveal celebration for the first time.
