GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • As two Kofi Mills (London, England/Martin Van Buren (N.Y.)) free throws pulled Gannon to within a point in a tight second half, Seton Hill answered with back-to-back 3-pointers around the eight-minute mark, the first coming off a Golden Knight turnover. After misses from both sides took a couple more minutes off the clock, the next made field goal was another Griffin 3, as Nathan Davis put the guests up 58-48 with 6:13 to play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After teams traded buckets for the first four-plus minutes of the game, Joe Fustine (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) tied things up at 11-all with a 3-pointer to start a 10-2 run, then capped that same run with another trey. That one pushed the lead to 18-13 as the clock dipped under 12 minutes to go in the first half.
  • The Griffins got back in it with two baskets for every one the Golden Knights scored in the next four minutes though, pulling to within a point at 22-21 at the 7:01 mark. They tied it up on a Davis layup three minutes later, and a 3-pointer from Trevor Blondin gave SHU its first lead in over 12 minutes.
  • Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) answered with a triple of his own to flip the lead right back to the Knights with less than two minutes to go in the half, and sank another following a Jonathan Harewood (Baldwin, N.Y./St. Anthony's) lay-in. That made it a seven-point game, with a lone SHU free throw cutting it to 37-31 at the break.
  • A Mike Haysbert (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology and Environmental Science) layup opened the second-half scoring and got the lead back to eight for the Knights, although the Griffins answered with a 9-2 run. A bucket from Harewood was all that kept Gannon in front during that stretch, but five straight points put SHU ahead 45-43.
  • DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) tied it back up at 45-45 on a stick-back coming out of the under-12 media timeout, but the 3-point daggers from Seton Hill turned the tide.
  • Cisero hit a pair of free throws to get it back to eight points, but the Griffins responded with the next six points and cruised to the win.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon's offense went cold in the second half, hitting just 5-of-32 from the field and 0-of-6 from deep on the way to 17 points. That came after an efficient first half that saw them shoot 15-of-29 from the floor and 4-of-6 from 3-point range as they built a lead.
  • The Seton Hill win drew everyone tighter for the final few spots in the PSAC postseason. Gannon still sits in fifth, but just a half-game ahead of sixth-place California and a full game ahead of Seton Hill in seventh. The top six reach the postseason.
  • Cisero reached double figures in scoring for the fourth consecutive game, shooting 5-of-12 for 12 points to go with seven rebounds, a block and a steal.
  • Along with Cisero, Haysbert was tough on the boards. Each pulled in seven rebounds, including four offensive, as the Knights took the rebounding battle 38-35. It's the 17th time in 22 games they've pulled in more than their opponents.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon continues its homestand Saturday afternoon, hosting No. 6/6 Indiana.
  • The 3 p.m. tip from the Hammermill Center will feature live video, live stats and live audio.
  • Saturday is also Gannon's Make-A-Wish game, and the Golden Knights ask all fans to wear Hawaiian-themed clothing as we help bring Hawaii to the Hammermill Center.
  • The Crimson Hawks hold a 26-22 lead in the all-time series against the Golden Knights, earning a 78-57 win on Jan. 2.
  • IUP sits in a tie atop the PSAC West at 20-2 (13-2 PSAC) after a 77-48 revenge victory at home against Slippery Rock Wednesday evening.
