KEY SEQUENCE
  • A tight game throughout the second half, Kutztown broke out for a 9-2 run to start overtime. Gannon cut it down to a four-point margin with just over a minute left in the extra frame, but the hosts followed with a bucket, then hit four free throws down the stretch to hold on.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kutztown built an early 10-4 lead to begin the contest. Gannon then settled in constructing an 8-2 run of its own to lock the game, 12-12, following a jumper from Javier Valeiras (La Gomera, Spain/IES Felo Monzon) at the 10:19 mark. A few possessions later, Valeiras connected on one more jumper to give the Knights their first lead of the game, 16-14.
  • After the teams traded buckets, Gannon was able to extend their lead up to seven points, 33-26, after Jonathan Harwood delivered a layup with 2:06 to play in the half. Gannon took a 34-32 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Knights shot 41.4 percent (12-29) from the field and Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) led all scorers with 10 points in the first half.
  • Both teams exchanged points for the first four minutes of the second half until Micheal Tertsea knocked down a jumper, 45-40, with 15:24 to play. The Knights then began to take control extending their edge into double figures, 54-44, after Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) netted a pair of three throws. Kutztown answered with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit down to three, 56-53, with 9:06 to play.
  • The Golden Bears continued to apply pressure to steal the lead, 66-65, after Josh Townsend delivered two free throws to force a Knight timeout with 4:25 remaining.
  • Webb put the Knights right back in front with a layup coming out of the timeout, and he did the same thing on each of the next two possessions. A trey off a feed from Matt Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) made it 70-68, and a jumper at the 2:51 mark put the guests up by a pair.
  • A timeout up by one with less than a minute left set Gannon up to extend a late lead. DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) used up the entire shot clock and nailed a jumper to make it 77-74 with 19 seconds left, but a triple by Kutztown in the final seconds tied it up and sent it to overtime.
  • After no scoring in the first 1:15 of the extra session, the Golden Bears netted five quick points. Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) converted a layup on the next trip down the court, but another 4-0 burst made it a seven-point margin with 1:30 to play before the hosts hit free throws to close it out.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon pushed four into double figures in scoring, led by Webb's 22 to go with a team-high eight rebounds. The junior has topped the 20-point mark in two consecutive games after going for 24 a week ago in the Gary Miller Classic title game against Ashland.
  • Valeiras netted the first points of his Gannon career with a jumper midway through the first half, and didn't stop there, rolling to 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.
  • Johnson turned in a season-high 12 points, and Olawoye finished with 10 points to go with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
  • The Golden Knights outrebounded Kutztown 40-33, and have won the glass in five of six games this season.
  • With the help of an overtime period, the 82 points was the highest mark of the season for Gannon, which has put up its three best shooting games of the year (47.3 percent combined) over its last three outings.
