Gannon Pushes Win Streak to Seven after Topping Daemen, 3-0

  • The Short Story: Gannon rolled past Daemen, 3-0, in its final nonconference match of the regular season Wednesday night. Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) paced the Lady Knights with a match-high 13 kills.
 GAME DAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trading points to open the match, Gannon erupted with an 8-0 run to make the score 13-4 after a kill from Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute). Gannon then stretched its lead into double digits, 19-5. Gannon went on to win the opening frame, 25-12. Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) led the Knights with four kills in the set.
  • The two teams went back and forth in the second frame until Gannon began to pull away building a seven point, 17-10, advantage after a kill from Sampson. Laura Bebinger (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) then came off the bench for the Knights to put the set out of reach, 21-14, after sneaking a kill past the Wildcat defense. Gannon won the second frame, 25-16.
  • After the two teams found themselves deadlocked at 7-7, the Knights rattled off four straight points to make the score 11-7 and force a Daemen timeout. The Wildcats then slowly came back to pull within two, 22-20, late in the set. However, Gannon closed the set on a 3-1 run with two kills from Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) to seal the win, 25-21.
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon recorded their seventh straight and 15th sweep of the season.
  • The Knights seven straight sweeps is the longest streak since they strung together nine straight sweeps in the 2018 season.
  • Gannon has won its last five nonconference matches and is 9-4 in nonconference action this season.
  • Gannon has a 12-0 mark at home this season. The Knights last regular season home loss came on Oct. 28, 2017 against East Stroudsburg.
  • Gannon held the edge in kills (42-26), assists (36-25) and digs (51-48) The Knights also added nine service aces.
  • Kerestes tallied a match-high 13 kills to go along with a .462 hitting percentage.
  • Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) handed out a match-best 33 assists. She also added six digs and three kills.
  • Leitshuh registered a team-high 14 digs on the defensive end.
  • Smith contributed 13 digs and nine kills.
  • 15 different Knights saw action in the match.
UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns to PSAC action on the road at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
  • In their most recent meeting last season, Gannon topped Pitt-Johnstown, 3-0. The Lady Knights also lead the all-time series, 12-4.
