HOW IT HAPPENED
- Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) came out of the jump ball with a bucket in the paint to give Gannon a 2-0 lead that was quickly matched with a three-pointer from Amel Duggins to put the Bulldogs up by one. The teams wouldn't score again until under the five minute mark as they both struggled from the field in the first 10 minutes. Obenrader knocked down a shot from beyond the arc at the 2:01 mark to tie the game 8-8, but Chyna Butler hit a jumper with nine seconds left to give Bowie State a two-point lead heading into the second quarter.
- The streaky scoring continued into the second with Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) connecting on a free throw at the 7:30 mark for the first points of the quarter. Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) scored Gannon's first field goal of the quarter a little over four minutes in to give the Knights a 13-12 lead. The Bulldogs hit jumpers at the 1:55 and 1:20 marks to take a four-point lead into the break.
- The third quarter saw two lead changes and two ties as the teams found their groove offensively. Obenrader gave Gannon their only lead of the quarter with a three-pointer in its opening possession. Obenrader and Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) would later hit back-to-back threes to tie the game 29-29 with just under five minutes left to play. The second tie of the third came on a layup from Obenrader to knot the game 33-33. Kyaja Williams knocked down a jumper with 17 seconds left to give the Bulldogs a two point edge.
- The Knights cooled off in the fourth opening the door for the Bulldogs to pull away with a 12-point win. Bowie State used a 10-3 run in the final four minutes to win their fifth straight and improve to 5-0 on the year.
