HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams traded baskets to start the game. Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) knocked down a three pointer at the 6:29 mark to give the Knights a one point edge and their first lead of the game. Gannon went on a 5-0 run capped by another bucket from Mitchell. They would lead 11-10 at the end of the first.
  • Annie Whalen hit a jumper to open the second for the Golden Bears and give them the lead again. Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) responded on the other end for another lead change. The second quarter saw nine total lead changes and three ties. Casey Remolde gave Kutztown the lead into half time with 27 seconds left on the clock. The Bears edged Gannon 25-24 at the break and would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
  • Gannon fell flat in the third quarter as Kutztown held the Knights to just three points in the 10 minutes. The Bears wouldn't connect for their first points of the half until a little over two minutes in. Karen Lapkiewicz's jumper sparked a 9-0 run. Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) hit a free throw under the three minute mark to break the run. All of Gannon's points in the third came from the foul line as Mitchell and Tewes connected in the final two minutes.
  • The Knights poured in 23 points in the final quarter in an attempt to rally and get the win. Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) hit a jumper with 23 seconds left on the clock to pull Gannon within five points. Three free throws from the Golden Bears to close the game led them to an eight-point win, 58-50, over Gannon.
