  • Gannon controlled the tempo in the opening minutes with a quick 8-6 edge after Matt Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) got a layup to drop in traffic. After an Ashland layup, Gannon fought back constructing a 10-3 run featuring six points from DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) to pull within eight, 33-25, with 5:33 on the clock. However, Gannon trailed at the break, 45-34. Webb paced the Knights with nine points and two steals.
  • After Ashland opened the second half with six straight points, Gannon began to roll assembling an 11-2 run, which included two triples from Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) to make the score 53-45 with 14:52 to play. The Eagles pushed back to stretch their lead back up to 10, 61-51, with 11:51 to play. Gannon answered to cut the deficit down to four, 65-61, after Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) found Clancy for a layup with 8:42 remaining.
  • The Knights continued their late surge after Webb drained a layup, 74-71, with 2:34 to play. Ashland retaliated with a quick 4-2 run to push their lead to 78-73 with 30 seconds on the clock. Clancy once again came up big for the Knights knocking down a triple with 24 seconds to play to pull within two, 78-76.
