Gannon Tops Millersville in PSAC Play, 71-62

  • The Short Story: Three Knights reached double digits in scoring to help Gannon pick up its first win of the season over Millersville, 71-62. Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) led all scorers with 18 points.
     
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Millersville doubled up Gannon, 10-5, by the first media timeout of the contest. The Knights then connected on six unanswered points to steal the lead, 11-10, after Clancy buried a triple at the 13:11 mark. The Marauders responded to build a four point, 21-17, edge with 7:58 on the clock.
  • After locking the contest at 26-26, Gannon erupted with five straight points to swing the momentum and regain the lead, 31-26, after Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) drove the lane for a layup with 4:00 to play in the half. Gannon led at the break, 38-22.
  • Jonathan Harewood (Baldwin, N.Y./St. Anthony's) paced the Knights at the break with nine points and two assists. Olawoye chipped in five rebounds with six points, while Clancy also netted nine points. Gannon shot 48.3 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three in the first half.
  • The two teams traded points to open the second frame until Clancy drained his fourth triple of the contest, 45-37, with 14:42 remaining. The Marauders pushed back to chip the Knight edge down to three, 47-44, at the 12:30 mark. The two teams once again traded baskets down the stretch until Olawoye got a layup to drop in traffic, 58-50, with 6:02 remaining. Gannon then took advantage of free throws to grow its largest lead of the contest, 64-50, with 4:46 to play. The Knights closed out the remaining time to pick up their first win of the season, 71-62.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon held the edge in rebounds (42-36). The Knights' 42 rebounds were a season-high and they have won the rebounding battle in all three contests this season.
  • Gannon held Millersville to a season-low 62 points.
  • Gannon shot 75.0 percent from the free throw line and netted a season-best 18 free throws. It marked the Knights' highest free throw percentage since Feb. 23, 2019 against Mercyhurst when Gannon posted an 81.0 percentage.
  • Gannon shot 40.7 percent from the field and connected on 24 field goals.
  • The Knights posted a season-high five blocks. Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Michael Tertsea (Benue State, Nigeria/John Carroll) each contributed two.
  • Clancy netted a game-high 18 points and drained a game-best four three pointers.
  • Olawoye reached double digits in scoring for the second straight game with 13 points. He also added season-best seven rebounds with three assists.
  • Cisero came off the bench and reached double digits in scoring for the second time this season with 11 to go along with seven rebounds.
  • Nine Knights scored at least two points in the contest.
