McGarity Nabs Sixth To Lead Knights At Tough Missouri Valley Open

The Short Story: Against one of the largest fields the Knights are likely to see this season, Gannon battled hard, led by sixth-place finisher Kendall McGarity (Spring Branch, Texas/Smithson Valley).

EVENT NOTES

The large field featured 34 teams and numerous unattached wrestlers. Nine of the top 10 teams at last season's WCWA Nationals were in attendance, and most weights featured a 32-person bracket with pigtails.
McGarity picked up a fall in her first bout of the day to move into the 191 quarterfinals. After a defeat there, the freshman bounced through two rounds of consolations to reach the top eight. A 10-0 technical fall and a pin in 1:46 got her to the consolation semifinal before finishing sixth.
Helm won three straight facing elimination in the consolation bracket, notching two falls and a tech.
Blarr won a pigtail at 116 before falling in the round of 32. She bounced back with back-to-back pins in the consolations.
Dos Santos reached the round of 16 on the front side of the bracket, then won two more bouts on the back side, including a pair of techs.
Of the Knights 18 bout wins on the day, 10 were pins and four tech falls.

UP NEXT

Gannon takes a week off of competition over the Thanksgiving holiday before returning home to take on Tiffin in a dual at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 at the Hammermill Center.
