SCOUTING GANNON
  • Gannon got some traction with its running game and forced a pair of turnovers, but the IUP defense didn't allow easy yards as the Crimson Hawks picked up a 35-0 victory last week.
  • Tre McNeill (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College HS) led the Gannon defense in tackles for the third consecutive week, and now leads the team with 58 stops on the year.
  • Another two takeaways against IUP pushed Gannon up to 29th in Division II with 17 forced turnovers. The Knights are ninth in the nation with 13 interceptions.
  • Quarterback Jimmy Keefe (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/St. Edward) and receiver Joey Cox (Costa Mesa, Calif./Calvary Chapel) are in their fourth season as teammates, and they have no problem working together. The pair have hooked up for 29 completions, 474 yards and five touchdowns on the season, accounting for nearly a third of Keefe's passing output.
  • The Golden Knights rank 44th in the country in red zone defense, allowing scores on just 73.2 percent of opponents' trips inside the 20.

SCOUTING MERCYHURST
  • A short field led to a touchdown and two-point conversion to give the Lakers a lead with 20 minutes left Saturday against California, but the Vulcans answered with big plays to seal the win. Mercyhurst was held to just 255 yards of offense and threw three interceptions.
  • Running back Garrett Owens, who is in his third year as a starter, is eighth in the PSAC with 508 rushing yards, and has added 230 receiving yards. The junior has no problem finding the end zone, and is 11th in Division II with 12 total scores.
  • The Lakers are just another team in the PSAC that is stingy against the run, standing 38th in the country but only eighth in the conference, allowing 116.1 yards per game, although they've given up at least 160 yards in three of their last five.

UP NEXT
  • The Golden Knights head home for the final time this season, hosting No. 10 Slippery Rock for Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day at McConnell Family Stadium on Nov. 9.
