HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Knights controlled the pace in the opening set jumping out to a 9-4 edge following a kill from Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson). Gannon stretched its lead to double digits, 17-7, following a block by Sampson and Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute). The Knights went on to take the frame, 25-11.
  • Both teams found themselves deadlocked at 4-4 until the Knights rattled off five straight points to make the score 9-4. Gannon then took control of the set stretching its lead to seven, 14-7, after a kill from Smith. The Knights went on to close out the set, 25-20.
  • Gannon opened the third set creating a 10-6 advantage after four straight points. Kutztown battled back to steal the lead, 19-16, and force a Knight timeout. Greenfield retaliated for Gannon to lock the contest at 24-24 late in the set. However, the Golden Bears went on to score two straight points to steal the frame, 26-24.
  • Gannon regained control in the fourth set building an early 6-1 edge to force a Kutztown timeout. The Knights then built an eight point lead, 18-10, following a Kenzie Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) service ace. Gannon went on to win the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-1.
