  • The Short Story: Gannon outlasted Findlay, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in nonconference play. Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) handed out a match-best 42 assists to lead the Lady Knights.
 GAME DAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams traded points in the opening set until Gannon rattled off three straight to make the score 12-8 following a Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) service ace. The Oilers clawed back to lock the set, 19-19. The Golden Knights then took control closing the frame with a strong 6-1 run to win the set, 25-20.
  • Gannon continued to apply pressure in the second frame sprinting out to a 7-1 edge following a Sampson kill. The Knights then expanded their lead up to 19-12 after back-to-back kills by Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran). Gannon went on to take the second set, 25-19.
  • The Oilers retaliated in the third frame creating a five point, 20-15, advantage and forcing the Knights to burn a timeout. Gannon then pushed back to pull within one, 23-22, after a kill from Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder). Gannon closed the set with a clutch 4-1 run to win the frame, 26-24.
GAME NOTES
  • The Knights recorded their fourth straight and 12th sweep of the season.
  • Gannon held the edge in kills (49-29), assists (42-24) and digs (80-60) The Knights also added six service aces.
  • Sampson recorded her fifth double-double of the season matching a career-high 21 digs with 11 kills.
  • Smith posted her eighth double-double of the season with 15 digs and 11 kills.
  • Beyers handed out a match-high 42 assists with seven digs and two kills. She has produced at least 40 assists in 10 matches this season.
  • Four Knights contributed at least 10 digs in the match on the defensive end of the floor.
