  • The Short Story: Gannon overpowered Mercyhurst, 3-0, to record its 10th sweep of the season. Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) recorded a double-double with a match-high 13 kills to go along with 12 digs.
 GAME DAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon got things started running out to an 8-1 edge following a service ace from Smith. The Lady Knights then pushed their lead up to 15-8 and forced a Laker timeout. Gannon went on to close out the opening frame, 25-13.
  • After trading points to open the second set, Mercyhurst pushed pack creating an 11-8 edge. Gannon retaliated steal its first lead, 16-13, after back-to-back kills from Smith. The Knights then held off the Lakers to steal the second set, 25-20.
  • Mercyhurst battled back in the third set which saw a match-high six tied scores and three lead changes. The Lakers jumped out to a 15-8 lead to force a Gannon timeout by the midway point. Gannon then roared back to capture the lead, 21-20, following a kill from Smith. The Knights then closed the frame on a dominate 4-2 run to seal the win, 25-23.
GAME NOTES
  • The Knights recorded their 10th sweep of the season and are 10-2 in matches this season that last three sets.
  • Gannon has a 9-0 mark at home this season. The Knights last regular season home loss came on Oct. 28, 2017 against East Stroudsburg.
  • Gannon held the edge in kills (43-25) and assists (38-23). The Knights also posted a .269 hitting percentage.
  • Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) handed out a match-high 35 assists. She also contributed four digs and three kills.
  • Smith tallied her second straight and seventh double-double of the season with a match-high 13 kills and 12 digs. She also added two service aces.
  • Toni Leitshush totaled a team-best 17 digs on the defensive side.
  • Six Knights registered at least three kills in the match.  
UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns to action hosting Slippery Rock tomorrow at the Hammermill Center. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
  • Last season, the Knights rolled past Slippery Rock, 3-0. Gannon also leads the all-time series, 36-10.
