HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite a 0-0 score at halftime, the Knights tested the Lakers in the first half firing off ten shots and holding them to just one in the first 45 minutes.
- Leah Bermudez (Milton, Ontario/Jean Vanier Catholic) put Gannon on the board less than a minute into the second half. Megan McCartney (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) set up for a corner kick with just 30 second off the clock. She sent it in to Bermudez who headed it inside the net near the post to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
- Sarah Fails (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria) scored less than ten minutes later. Vanessa Coccurello (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean de Brebeuf) passed across the field to an open space. Fails met the ball, used two touches, and beat the goalkeeper to tally the game winner.
- Coccurello added a goal in the 81st minute to go with her assist. Maddie North (Leysdown-on-Sea, England/The Westlands School) won a 50-50 ball and passed out to the top right side of the box. Coccurello sent the ball high to net it just below the cross bar.
- Maya Bauer avoided a shutout for the Lakers in the 86th minute. Bauer struck on a goalkeeper misplay from 15 yards out.
