HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon quickly doubled up Millersville in the opening set, 8-4, after a block by Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) and Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran). The Lady Knights capitalized on the momentum stretching their edge to six, 16-10, following a Valeria Torres (Gurabo, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) service ace. Gannon took the opening set, 25-18.
  • Millersville pushed back in the second frame to steal a 13-12 edge and force a Gannon timeout. The Knights responded with a fast 5-0 run to regain the lead, 17-13, after another block from Beyers and Kerestes. The Marauders answered to take the lead once again, 20-19. The Knights then rattled off five straight points to create a 24-20 lead after a kill from Sampson. However, Millersville closed the frame with an 8-2 run to win the set, 28-26.
  • Gannon battled back in the third frame jumping out to a 13-6 edge following a Sampson service ace. The Knights continued to add to their lead, 20-8, after a kill by Kerestes. Gannon went on to win the set, 25-11.
  • The Knights found a rhythm in the fourth frame building an early 12-5 edge after a kill from Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington). Gannon then expanded its lead to 20-10 following a kill by Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute). The Knights went on to take the set, 25-13, and the match, 3-1.
