KEY SEQUENCE
  • Gannon got two buckets early in the second half to cut its deficit to 11 points, but the No. 3 Crimson Hawks responded by going on a big run over a span of nearly four minutes, outscoring the Golden Knights 14-3 to push the lead to 22 with 13:26 to play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • IUP got on the board first nearly two minutes in on a 3-pointer, but Fernando Salsamendi (Curitiba-Parana, Brazil/Circulo Militar do Parana) answered the next time down the floor with a trey of his own to tie it up. The sophomore hit another from deep to pull the Golden Knights to within two at 10-8, but the Crimson Hawks buried another to make it at five-point game.
  • From there, Gannon netted the next seven points, getting free throws from Matt Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson), a 3-pointer from Daniel Sapp (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) and a jumper out of Jovante Lee (Dothan, Ala./Northview) to take their first lead at 15-13 at the 10:47 mark. IUP jumped back in front with a 3-pointer, but Lee hit one of his own to push the guests back in front.
  • The Crimson Hawks kept hitting shots throughout the first half, taking the lead back with a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer. Cyril Ogbuagu (Lagos, Nigeria/Riverdale Baptist (Md.)) cut it to a one-point game with a layup, but the hosts ran off a 10-point burst to go up by 12 at 33-21 with 3:42 left in the half, and held a 13-point advantage by the end of the period.
  • DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) and Salsamendi each had a bucket to make it 44-33 just over two minutes into the second half, but IUP answered with five straight. Lee made all three free throws after being fouled shooting a triple to cut it back to 49-36, but the Crimson Hawks again rallied, netting nine points in just a minute to make it 58-36.
  • Gannon snapped an eight-minute drought without a field goal on a Daryl Porter (Southfield, Mich./Walled Lake Western) layup at the 9:02 mark, and three total baskets from Cisero and Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) helped cut the lead to 65-45. A strong close to the game saw the Knights score 10 of the final 15 points.

GAME NOTES
  • Cisero, led the Golden Knights with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, matching his season high in both points and field goals. His eight rebounds were a game-high for either side.
