Gannon Football Falls to Edinboro, 31-24, Saturday Afternoon

THE RUNDOWN

  • Records: Gannon (0-5, 0-2 PSAC West), Edinboro (4-1, 1-1 PSAC West)
  • Location: Sox Harrison Stadium — Edinboro, Pa.
  • The Short Story: Despite a 14-0 first quarter lead, four takeaways and a return to form for senior running back Marcus Jones (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside), Edinboro thwarted Gannon's spirited effort to spoil its Homecoming as the Golden Knights fell 31-24 on Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium.

GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Redshirt-sophomore quarterback Jason Dambach (Fombell, Pa./Riverside), who made his first start of the 2018 season, engineered impressive first quarter scoring drives on two of the Golden Knights first three possessions. Dambach kept it himself on a six-yard scramble to put Gannon ahead 7-0 with 9:19 left in the first quarter and Marcus Jones (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) handed the Golden Knights a 14-0 lead with a 29-yard scamper with 3:28 remaining in the opening frame.
  • Edinboro countered back with its first scoring drive of the afternoon as QB Andrew Tomko delivered the first of three touchdown passes on the afternoon with a 19-yard strike to A.J. Turner as Gannon led 14-7.
  • Jake Monroe capped a nine-play, 62-yard drive for the Fighting Scots with a 32-yard field goal to make the score 14-10.
  • The Golden Knights countered with a field goal of their own, a 24-yard attempt from freshman Brian Strybel (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park), extending their second quarter lead to 17-10.
  • The Fighting Scots bounced back with a 1-yard touchdown run to even the back-and-forth first half score at 17-17.
  • Marcus Jones (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) put the Golden Knights back in front on their second drive of the second half with a one-yard touchdown run as Gannon led 24-17. Dambach took advantage of the good field position and began the drive with a 25-yard run that took the Golden Knights into the red zone.
  • Tomko found James Clark for a 7-yard touchdown to knot the score at 24 with 7:01 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Edinboro closed the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown strike from Tomko to Turner as the Fighting Scots took a 31-24 lead on an 11-play, 80-yard scoring drive.
