Gannon Women's Soccer Battles Slippery Rock to 2-2 Double Overtime Tie

  • The Short Story: Despite leading 2-0 in the first half, the Gannon women's soccer team played Slippery Rock to a 2-2 double overtime tie on Sunday evening at McConnell Family Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon took an early lead when Emily Cekella (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) played in a crossing pass from Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) just 2:28 into the game.
  • Lewis extended the lead to 2-0 in the 31st minute when she headed in Kayla Bevacqua's (Welland, Ontario/Notre Dame) free kick.
  • Slippery Rock cut into Gannon's lead in the 36th minute when Skye Kramer scored on a penalty kick following a foul in the box.
  • With just under 12 minutes to play in the game, Jordyn Minda tied it up for the Rock on a pass from Brooke Testa.
  • Gannon held a 3-2 shot advantage in the first overtime period and another 3-2 advantage in the next 10 minutes, but neither team could find the back of the net.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Cekella and Lewis recorded goals for Gannon.
  • Lewis and Bevacqua each tallied assists.
  • Gannon outshot Slippery Rock, 26-10, including a 10-4 shot-on-goal advantage.
