  • The Short Story: The Gannon men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 setback to top-ranked Charleston (W. Va.) on Sunday afternoon at Schoenbaum Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Charleston scored a pair of goals in the first half and three goals in the second half on its way to a 5-0 win.
  • The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead with a goal by Tam Dimario less than 10 minutes into the contest.
  • Gannon hit the post with its first shot at 45:56 but was unable to get on the board.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Redshirt sophomore Baran Kilic (Darmstadt, Germany/Bertolt-Brecht-Schule) and freshman Kevin Lemin (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) recorded each recorded a shot for Gannon.
  • Junior goalkeeper Hedi Mehnaoui (Paris, France/Lycee Chevrollier) made two saves while junior Georgios Zarzavatsidis (Thessaloniki, Greece/Aristoteleio College) made three saves in relief.
  • The Golden knights had three fouls in the match.

  • The Golden Knights open the season with three consecutive road matches in three different states.
  • Charleston was ranked atop the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, released August 7, 2018. The Golden Eagles defeated Lynn to claim the school's first men's soccer national championship on December 2, 2017.
