  • The Short Story: The No. 14 Gannon women's volleyball team bounced back from its first setback of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Kutztown on Saturday afternoon. The win handed Gannon its first conference victory of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon used back-to-back kills from senior Lexi Johnson (Chandler, Ariz./Basha) and freshman Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) to take a 4-3 lead in the first set.
  • Following several errors on Kutztown, Gannon extended its lead to 11-7 in the first set.
  • A 5-1 run for Gannon put the Lady Knights in front 17-12. Gannon eventually scored five of the last six points in the first set for a 25-16 victory.
  • A service ace from Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) handed Gannon a 5-2 edge in the second set.
  • Kutztown rallied to tie the second set at nine before Gannon pulled ahead 18-15 with a kill from freshman Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson).
  • Gannon scored the last four points of the second set for a 25-21 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
  • After a back-and-forth set to the third set, sophomore Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) smacked a kill to put Gannon up 10-8.
  • The lady Knights used a 6-1 scoring run for an 18-15 set lead, highlighted by a pair of kills from Kerestes.
  • Gannon scored the last two points of the match for a 25-22 set victory.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon received contributions from throughout the lineup offensively. Kerestes led the team with nine kills, but Johanna Gregory (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) smacked eight kills while Laura Bebinger (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Sampson chipped in seven kills each.
  • Gannon out-hit the Golden Bears .189 to .053 overall, including a .167 to .000 advantage in the final set.
  • Kerestes posted a team-high four blocks.
  • Leitshuh had a team-high 17 digs while Kenzie Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) added 16 digs of her own.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Kerestes posted a season-high nine kills for the Lady Knights. She also hit a team-high .667.
  • Gannon notched its 10th sweep of the 2018 season.
  • Saturday's match concluded a 13-match road swing to begin the season.
